96% of Roads in China Will Be Toll-free

He Jianzhong, spokeman for China's Ministry of Transport, said that non-toll roads would account for more than 96% of country's road mileage in the feature.

He also said that the government would be responsible for financing the non-toll road network, while the funds for expressway-building projects would mainly come from bank loans and social funding.

China is considering building two road networks, one that will mainly consist of low-charge but highly efficient expressway and other come up of non-toll common roads.

Shaolin Soccer

Hangzhou Bay Bridge

Hangzhou bay bridge, which is 35.673km in length, is the longgest transoceanic bridge in the world. It connects the municipalities of Jiaxing and Ningbo in Zhejiang Province which is in the east of China.

The construction of Hangzhou bay bridge started on June 8,2003 and ended on June 14, 2007. The bridge was not opened to public until May 1, 2008, because it needs a considerable period of testing and evaluation.

Hangzhou bay bridge is a part of Shenhai expressway, or #G15 expressway in China, the current toll rate is 80RMB for a one-way crossing, this applies to all automobiles, both cars and trunks. Hangzhou bay bridge shortened the distance between Ningbo and Shanghai from 400km to 280km, and reduced 1.5 hours of travel time.

Retirement Age Will Be Pushed Back in China

China's top labor official said the country is planning to push back the retirement age, but there is no timetable.

YinWeimin, minister of human resources and social security, said delaying the retirement age is a very complicated issue and they will study it according to the situations of population and employment.

Salt Supply Confirmed to Be Enough in China

China's major salt supplier, the China National Salt Industry Corp. (CNSIC), affirmed on Thursday that there are rich salt reserves to meet people's demand and there is no need to hoard salt.

There is a rumor claimed that Japan's nuclear crisis would lead to sea water pollution and the salt produced with such water will be harmful.

China Suspends Approval for New Nuclear Plants

Accorging to Wednesday's executive meeting of the State Council, China has suspended the approval process for nuclear power stations so that safety standards can be revised after the explosion at a Japanese plant.

Besides, the State Council has required relevant departments to do safety checkes at the existing nuclear plants.
